The Nordvang Gravity pedal is an all analog, custom-made take on two all-time favorite overdrive circuits, the Klon style circuit and a TS10 Tube Screamer circuit, all in one enclosure! A new dual overdrive, specializing in mid push, Gravity will give you the ability to cut through the mix in any situation.
The Nordvang Gravity v2.5 update…
- TS side - Nordvang added an additional clipping diode option, so besides the 2-diode symmetrical (stock), 3-diode asymmetrical, you now also have a 4-diode symmetrical clipping option.
- Added a dip switch for boosting the output of the TS side.
The Nordvang Gravity v2.0 update…
- By popular demand in 2021, the Gravity v2.0 now features a TRS split function to use with pedal looper systems like the GigRig, etc. The TRS split is enabled via 3 internal dip switches.
- To make room for the dip switches for the TRS split functionality, Nordvang reduced the number of switching options for the TS side (side A), compared to the v1 of Gravity. Side A now features a stock, and an alternate setting, for each of the 3 parameters: clipping, clarity and brightness.
- Gravity's enclosure is now finished in a fine texture powder coat.
Nordvang Custom's inspiration for this pedal lies in its name, Gravity, and also by the later live lead tones of John Mayer. In particular, the outro solo tone in his song "Gravity", and intro in his song "Belief", where John stacks these two pedals to obtain his signature tone, with a thick wall of mids. The TS10 Tube Screamer is often used as the main lead tone, and the Klon style overdrive is added as a second cascading gain stage, either as a pre-drive into the TS10, or as a post drive.
Nordvang has re-created the circuits of each pedal, staying true to the original, but added switching options for additional tone shaping. They also kept both buffers that were used in the original designs, in order to replicate the exact interaction between the two circuits.
The Gravity overdrive is divided into a Side A (left), and a side B (Right), separated by the order toggle switch in the middle, which is used to flip the internal order of the effects, and hence the signal path from guitar to amp. Both sides can be used separately or stacked.
SIDE A (LEFT):
Side A features the TS10 circuit with external knobs for DRIVE, TONE, LEVEL and a 3-position toggle switch labeled LOWS. The lows switch changes the bass response of the circuit. Internally, you find 3 sets of dip switches (clipping, clarity, and brightness) that further enable you to tweak your tone.
Features of Side A (Left):
- Replica of the TS10 audio circuit including the 3 transistor buffer circuit.
- RC4558 Operation Amplifier
- External 3 position lows toggle switch for extended low frequency response
- Original Toshiba 1s1588 silicon diodes as in the original TS10 JP
- 3 sets of internal dip switches for extended tweaking
1: Clarity (switch 1-2)
2: Brightness (switch 3-4)
3: Clipping (switch 5-6)
SIDE B (RIGHT):
The side B features the Klon style circuit with external knobs for GAIN, TREBLE, OUTPUT, and a 2-position toggle switch labeled CLIPPING. The clipping switch toggles between a pair of germanium or schottky clipping diodes.
Features of Side B (Right):
- Replica of the K-circuit
- External two position Clipping switch to choose between a pair of Germanium, or a pair of Schottky clipping diodes
- Original NOS D9B germanium diodes (as long as our stock lasts).
The external ORDER switch chooses in which order the signal passes through the two circuits.
The Nordvang Custom 83 Drive is built using carefully selected top shelf components:
- Vishay 1% metalfilm resistors
- WIMA MKP10, MKS4 and FKP2 film capacitors (no electrolytes in the audio circuit)
- VIMEX sealed potentiometers
- Carling Footswitch
- CKK and Taiway toggle switches
- Pure Tone Multi-Contact 1/4" Jack
- Silver plated teflon insulated cable for internal wiring.
- U.S. made Davies Moulding 1470 knobs
